VMware Cloud Foundation Bundle Clean up Steps

Cleaning up old or unused bundles from SDDC Manager is an important maintenance task to free up disk space and ensure that your VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environment runs smoothly. Bundles include update packages, patches, and other resources that SDDC Manager uses for lifecycle management. Over time, these can accumulate and consume significant storage space.

Step-by-Step Guide to Cleaning Up Bundles in SDDC Manager

Prerequisites:

  • Administrative access to SDDC Manager.

  • SSH access to the SDDC Manager appliance if needed for manual clean-up.

  • A backup of your SDDC Manager appliance and database (optional but recommended).

Step 1: Log in to SDDC Manager

  1. Access the SDDC Manager UI: Open your web browser and navigate to the SDDC Manager login page. Log in with your administrator credentials.

  2. Navigate to the Lifecycle Management Section: Once logged in, go to the Lifecycle Management tab on the left-hand side of the dashboard.

Step 2: Identify the Bundles for Cleanup

  1. View Available Bundles: Under the Lifecycle Management section, select Bundles. This will show you a list of all downloaded and imported bundles, including update packages and patches.

  2. Check the Status and Usage: Review the status of each bundle to determine which ones are no longer needed. Typically, older bundles or those that have been superseded by newer updates can be safely removed.

Step 3: Clean Up Bundles via the SDDC Manager ssh

  1. Click on the View Details u will see the Bundle ID as show below

2. Copy the bundle id into a notepad

3. SSH to SDDC Manager and go to the below path

cd /opt/vmware/vcf/lcm/lcm-app/bin

4. Under the /opt/vmware/vcf/lcm/lcm-app/bin , we will have bundle_cleanup.py script

5. run the command followed by the bundle id which we copied earlier.
